LISC Detroit Logo

Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)’s model has been in place since 1990. Their model is simple: government, foundations, and for-profit companies have the capital; residents and local institutions understand the need; and LISC bridges this gap by providing relationships and expertise to help the community organizations attract the essential resources that allow them to produce their best work. Fundamentally, LISC arranges and invests resources that support sustainable neighborhood revitalization and community growth. They strive to build positive environments to ensure that all residents of any income level have the opportunities and tools needed to build assets, become part of the economy, and participate in the benefits of their communities. They currently receive funding from banks, corporations, foundations, and government agencies and in turn, use this funding to provide financing, and technical and management assistance to local partners and developers.
