April Isalski Carcone, PhD, MSW

Associate Professor, Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences, Division of Behavioral Health Sciences, Wayne State University School of Medicine

Dr. Carcone is an associate professor in the Behavioral Science Division of the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Wayne State University School of Medicine. She also holds a part-time faculty appointment at Wayne State University School of Social Work. She graduated with an M.S.W. in Social Policy and Program Evaluation with Children and Youth from the University of Michigan School of Social Work and with a Ph.D. in Social Work from Wayne State University School of Social Work. Dr. Carcone is interested in developing, implementing and testing behavioral interventions with at-risk children with chronic illnesses, mainly diabetes and obesity, on a series of NIH grants. Her current work focuses on improving communication in clinical contexts with a specific emphasis on motivational interviewing communication techniques.
